A body remains.
Lying lifeless,
Eyes glued shut.
A body remains where a soul once was,
Heartbreak lingers in the air.
Waiting for this feeling to dissolve,
Like sugar in my tea.
But it never will.
The ache in my heart,
I can feel your presence.
Eyes piercing my soul
Through shut lids.
Foot against my chest,
Forcing the last of my breath,
When you’ve got none left.
Bed upturned,
coffin in its place.
Chairs strewn across the floor.
Tissues crumpled in corners,
Tears clinging to the fabric,
Rubbing salt in the wound.
